From
the 18th century to the present day, Scotland has played a large part in
maritime history. There are three sites in Scotland, Irvine, Renfrewshire
and Dumbarton, all managed by the Scottish Maritime Museum. Each site has
a collection of ships that span 150 years of Maritime history and Irvine's
is one of the best.
The museum tour starts at the 'Linthouse
Engine Shop' and take's you through rooms and a kitchen restored to there
1920's state from shipyard workers tenements. You are also able to go on
board a ship and have a look for yourself.
In its working days the harbour was one of the main trading posts for
Glasgow. Now the Harbour-side has a variety of attractions from a leisure
centre to bird watching areas, all of which help to contribute to an
exciting day out.
The museum welcomes small and larger
parties, including special tours out-with opening hours. School visits can
be organised to suit different age groups and catering facilities can be
provided.
Special discount prices are available for group bookings
