Tynecastle win gives Killie Heart after dismal season

May 15 2008

Hearts 0 Kilmarnock 2

Kilmarnock Standard

KILLIE were given a much-needed lift by this win, their first on the road since last September.

In fact, the records show that Killie have not lost to the Tynecastle side during this, their most miserable of seasons.

And it was the Hearts fans who were throwing their season tickets on to the pitch at the end of the game, with Killie much the happier of the two outfits, coming back to Ayrshire with the three points.

After a stuffy first half, with little action in either penalty box, Killie finally got the opener on 74 minutes. David Fernandez put a corner in and Grant Murray was given a free goal attempt, his header finding the net.

Sub Paul Di Giacomo was again given plenty of space with seven minutes to go.

He volleyed home after getting on the end of a cross by Paul Dalglish, who had been a menace to the Hearts defence all afternoon.

With only Falkirk at home to play now, Killie will be hoping for another win to bring down the curtain on what has been a season best forgotten.

After the match, manager Jim Jefferies said he was delighted for the fans.

He added: “We played a lot better in the second half and passed well.

“There’s not been a lot to shout about this season, and this victory gives us a wee lift at the end of the season.

“They were two good goals, and I thought it was a good performance.”
