STRIKER Allan Russell finally concluded his drawn-out switch from Airdrie United to Killie this week and immediately set about putting his feet up for a well-earned holiday.
The 27-year-old hitman’s two-year contract, with an option for a third year, was eventually agreed on Monday, despite earlier reports that it was a done deal weeks ago.
He has already trained with his new Rugby Park team-mates and has set his sights on firing Killie into the top six next season — but not before a relaxing break.
Allan said: “I’m just glad it’s finally been signed and sealed and I can go on holiday knowing where I’ll be playing next season.
“I will come back fresh and focused on having a good season.
“I’ve never played in the SPL before and I think I’m at a good stage in my career to make the step up.
“It was a disappointing season for Kilmarnock, but next season we have to make a top six finish our priority.”
After netting 33 goals for Airdrie last term, Russell is in the form of his career, which has included spells at St Mirren, Partick and Macclesfield.
But he feared he might have missed out on his chance to move to Ayrshire when a last-ditch winter transfer window attempt to secure his services fell through.
He said: “I first heard about Killie’s interest around six hours before the transfer deadline in January.
“When the deal didn’t go through of course I was disappointed. But these things happen in football and you just have to get on with it.
“I’m glad to be here now and I’m really looking forward to next season.”
